Learning Teamwork
Each week they have engaged in an activity that promotes teamwork and cooperation. Students are learning that planning, effective communication, and everyone doing their part are all aspects of succeeding in an activity. One of the activities required groups of 5-7 students to use a device made of strings tied to a rubber band. The goal was for the students to work together to stack six cups in a pyramid formation using only the device. They were not allowed to touch the cups even if they fell over, slipped onto another cup, or onto the floor. There was great excitement as they worked together, encountered a few obstacles and overcame them to accomplish the task. Students in second grade even took the supplies home to make their own devices and try it with family members.
